Is it allowed to carry an urn with ashes on the plane?
Yes, you’re allowed to bring an urn with human ashes both in the cabin and in the checked baggage.
Please keep the following in mind:
- Transport is subject to the regulations of each country, so you may need a death certificate and a cremation certificate, among other documents.
- Urns are inspected at the security checkpoints before entering the departure gates at each airport, and they may be opened by security authorities.
- Transporting pet ashes is not allowed.
We recommend that you contact the consulate of the country you’re traveling to so you can confirm the requirements. If your destination is Brazil, you can check the information on ANVISA's website.
