Can I travel with my pet on the plane?

Yes, our pet transport service allows you to travel with your dog or cat, on flights operated exclusively by LATAM (without connections with other airlines or codeshare flights).

For that, your pet can not travel sedated, must be in optimal health conditions (and in case of female pets, not be pregnant or having given birth within the previous 48 hours), docile behavior and at least 16 weeks of life.

Depending on the size, weight and other considerations, your pet can travel with you in the cabin (Economy or Premium Economy), or in the aircraft hold.


In the cabin

Your pet must travel in its transport bag or kennel (transportation container) during the entire flight. In addition:

  • Your pet must be able to stand up inside the carrier or kennel without touching the ceiling, and move and turn naturally without touching the walls.
  • It should measure 36 in length, 33 cm in width and 19 cm in height if it is a kennel (transportation container); or 40 cm in length x 28 cm in width and 25 cm in height if it is a transport bag.
  • You must have an Economy or Premium Economy Class ticket.
  • Flights must be operated exclusively by LATAM (without connections with other airlines or codeshare flights).
  • If it does not meet all the size and container conditions, it will not be accepted for travel.

In the hold

If your dog or cat exceeds the maximum size or weight allowed to travel in the cabin, it can travel in the hold, as long as the conditions and requirements are met. Your pet must travel in its own kennel (transportation container) or carrier and, in addition:

  • The weight of the pet plus the kennel (transportation container) should be up to 45 kg / 99 lb, or up to 32 kg / 70 lb if you travel to, from, or via Europe, Argentina or Venezuela.
  • It should measure 300 linear cm. (sum of width + height + length) with a maximum height of 115 cm. The distance between its head and the ceiling of the kennel (transportation container) should be at least 5 cm.
  • Flights must be operated exclusively by LATAM, with a maximum of 1 connection no longer than 7 hours (without connections with other airlines or codeshare flights);
  • The pet must not be in the list of dangerous or brachycephalic breeds.

Due to cargo and baggage demand limitations, the transportation of pets in the hold on the following routes is suspended until further notice:

  • Santiago (SCL) - Guayaquil (GYE)

Consider the kennel or transportation container requirements

The specifications of your pet's kennel or transportation container are fundamental to safeguard its safety at all times.

Take into consideration the details related to the kennel or transportation container requirement: details of the kennel, dimensions, materials and general considerations that must be met to ensure the welfare and safety of your pet.

If the kennel or transportation container does not comply with the requirements detailed in Pet transportation - Pets in the aircraft hold, for safety and care reasons your pet will not be accepted.

 

Consider the restrictions of your destination

It is important to know that each country can set different health restrictions, so we recommend you contact the health authority or the consulate of the countries you are visiting to find out if you can enter with your dog or cat.

How to apply for the service?

You can apply at our sales offices or by calling the Contact Center. at the time of booking or up to 48 hours before the departure of your flight.

  • If you are traveling with your pet in the cabin, you can do so up to 4 hours before the departure of your flight.
  • If you are traveling with your pet in the hold, you can call us after purchasing or up to 48 hours before; except on routes within Brazil, where you can request the service up to 60 days maximum before the departure of your flight.

Please note that the service is subject to the availability of space on the aircraft.

 

Travel ban for dogs to the U.S.

The CDC (Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention) dictates that all dogs traveling to the United States must comply with the following conditions:

  • It must be in good health.
  • It must be at least 6 months old.
  • It must have the importation form for dogs, emitted by the CDC website.
  • It must have a microchip. The number of the microchip must be included in all the required forms and documents.

Additionally, dogs coming from countries with a high risk of rabies transmission, or that have been in those countries within the last 6 months, or their itinerary includes a connection in those countries, must be vaccinated against rabies and comply with the vaccination requirements according to the country:
