What items are restricted or I am not allowed to transport in the aircraft cabin?
Liquids, Aerosols and Gels
You can bring containers with liquids, aerosols, gels, creams or products of similar consistency (deodorant stick, lipstick, toothpaste) in the cabin as long as you comply with the limits applicable to your flight, as follows.
Domestic flights
The maximum quantity of these items you can bring in the cabin within each country is defined by the local authorities:
- Chile, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador: No restrictions apply for the quantities transported.
- Brazil: each person may bring up to 4 containers, being 300 ml or 300 g (or less) per item.
International flights
You can bring containers of these items that are 100 ml (3.4 oz.) or less each, inside a transparent bag of up to 1 liter (34 oz.), with an opening and closing system that allows you to view the contents. Each passenger is allowed to bring a maximum of one bag with these containers inside.
Important: if your flight departs from Argentina or Chile, the same limits as for domestic flights apply. Except for flights:
- Heading to the United States or Oceania
- With a stop or connection in Uruguay.
Alcoholic beverages (between 24 and 70 % alcohol by volume)
On domestic flights, you may carry up to 5 liters (170 oz) in retail containers of up to 5 liters (170 oz), provided they contain between 24 % and 70 % alcohol by volume, subject to local regulations.
On international flights, you may carry containers of up to 100 ml each, contained in clear plastic bags with a maximum capacity of 1 liter that can be zipped closed. If your flight departs from Argentina or Chile, the same limits as for domestic flights apply. Except for flights:
- Heading to the United States or Oceania.
- With a stop or connection in Uruguay.
It is prohibited to carry alcoholic beverages containing more than 70 % alcohol by volume, regardless of the route and baggage.
Important: The sum of the amount of alcoholic beverages transported in the cabin and checked baggage cannot exceed 5 liters per person.
Food
You may carry food in your carry-on baggage in an airtight container that avoids spills or odors that could affect the rest of the baggage. Keep in mind that some countries have restrictions for certain foods, so we recommend that you check with the corresponding health authorities.
Mobile phones are allowed, except for Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones, which are prohibited. Portable electronic devices are also allowed as long as they are turned off or on flight mode during the trip for flight safety.
What items are not allowed in the cabin?
Sharp objects such as knives, files, nail clippers, razors, hand tools, knitting needles, corkscrews, ice picks, straight razors, among others.
Sharp objects like trekking poles, hockey sticks or billiard cues are not allowed in the cabin. You can check our section on sports, musical, or audiovisual equipment.
Firearms are not allowed in the cabin. Special conditions apply for transporting firearms on the airplane; you can do so as long as they are declared and unloaded. Failure to comply is a violation of civil aviation regulations. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the local regulations of the country you are traveling to and review our section on restricted or prohibited items in hold and cabin baggage.
Smart bags: You may carry smart bags or smart luggage if the battery is removable since it needs to be removed for safety reasons before boarding. If it does not meet this condition, you must ensure that the battery does not contain more than 0.3 g of lithium metal or 2.7 Wh. If it exceeds these values, you will not be able to travel with your suitcase, and we cannot be held responsible for its storage.
Drones: are allowed in carry-on baggage as long as its battery meets the conditions described in our section on restricted or prohibited items.
